There are reports of at least three bombs going off in London this morning with some twenty dead and hundreds wounded. As I ride my bike to work, I was not affected by the chaos on public transport and the first I was aware of it was the two fire engines that raced past me, sirens blaring, just as I approached my office.
The tube network is now shut down, bus routes have been cut and taxis are all full. No one know what has happened, which isn't surprising. I just wandered out to get a coffee and there was an eerie silence down near the Globe and Tate Modern, both of which are close to my office. Very few tourists, except for a small group of people huddled round a white van listening to the news on the radio. The driver had parked up, opening both doors wide to allow people to listen on both sides.
The girls in the coffee shop were starting to worry about who was going to take over once their shift finished, and how they were going to get home.
The mobile phone system is down, or at least so overwhelmed that you can't get a line. And as I write this sirens continue to sound past my office up over Southwark Bridge towards the City.
Glad to hear you're OK Mark. Thoughts are with you and yours.
